BJ Smith is a Licensed
Professional Counselor in private practice in Killeen, Texas. He
is also a former Army Officer and a life-long avid bass fisherman.
BJ has been fishing bass tournaments from coast to coast since 1978.
After leaving the military in 1992, he settled down in Central Texas,
where is currently resides. BJ started painting and refinishing
crankbaits years ago when he noticed the lack of durability and
limited color selection of some of his favorite fish catchers. Thinking
there must be a better way; BJ experimented with various paints
and finishes until he found what he was looking for… crankbaits
that look great and last for years. Soon his fishing buddies were
requesting him to “Wank” their lures. Fishermen are
good at keeping secret baits a secret, but it wasn’t long
before BJ was getting a serious following of paying customers. The
volume of requests increased until BJ had to convert a separate
building into what is now called, “The Wanker Lab.”
BJ uses only the finest
quality paints, brushes, and airbrushes available. Each Wanker is
prepped, painted, and finished by him (an eight to eleven stage
process). Each finished lure is coated with a Two ton (4,000 pound)
slow cure epoxy. No other finish will go on a Wanker. To the epoxy,
a dash of “Mojo” (a super fine secret polyflake) is
included to add additional flash and depth to each lure. Some pros
consider Mojo a “must have” for every crankbait.
